Peak season is coming, and for ecommerce brands, that usually means higher shipping costs.
USPS has already announced temporary price increases for the 2026 holiday season. DHL also uses peak and demand surcharges during periods of high shipping demand.
Some of those increases are simply part of doing business during Q4. But there’s another question brands should be asking:
Is your 3PL increasing its prices too?
Carrier Increases vs. 3PL Surge Pricing
These are two different costs.
Carrier surcharges are additional charges from companies like USPS and DHL for transporting packages during peak periods.
For 2026, USPS has proposed temporary holiday increases beginning October 4, 2026 and continuing through January 17, 2027. The increases affect Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage and Parcel Select. Commercial increases vary based on service, weight and shipping zone.
DHL also uses peak or demand surcharges during periods of unusually high shipping demand.
Then there’s 3PL surge pricing.
Some fulfillment providers charge their own additional peak-season fees to cover increased warehouse labor, staffing and operational demands.
That means an ecommerce brand can potentially get hit twice: higher carrier costs and higher fulfillment costs.
At FlagShip, Q4 Doesn’t Change Your Fulfillment Rate
Q4 is busier for us too.
We plan for additional volume, staffing and warehouse demands just like every other fulfillment operation. But we don’t believe our clients should pay a higher fulfillment rate simply because it’s November or December.
FlagShip Fulfillment’s pricing stays the same during peak season.
If USPS, DHL or another carrier changes its rates or imposes a seasonal surcharge, your actual shipping cost may change. But we don’t pile a FlagShip Q4 surge fee on top of it.
For growing ecommerce brands, predictable fulfillment costs make it easier to forecast margins, plan promotions and make decisions during the most important selling season of the year.
What Ecommerce Brands Should Do Before Q4
Don’t wait until your November invoice to discover your peak season and Q4 fulfillment costs.
Review your expected order volume and shipping mix now. Look at which services you use most frequently, especially USPS Ground Advantage and Priority Mail, and understand how seasonal carrier increases could affect your typical orders.
And ask your fulfillment provider a very simple question:
“Will any of my fulfillment, storage or handling rates increase during Q4?”
The answer should be clear before peak season begins.
At FlagShip Fulfillment, ours is.
Your regular fulfillment pricing stays your regular fulfillment pricing — even when things get busy.
